WHAT TO DO & WHAT NOT TO DO

The most common eye injuries are when something gets stuck in your eye, chemicals get into your eye, or you experience a fall or blunt force trauma. Knowing how to respond in an eye emergency can help prevent permanent damage and loss of vision.

CHEMICALS

Working with cleaning products, garden chemicals, or industrial-grade substances can be harmful to your eyes. Always wear the right protective gear to prevent accidents.

If a chemical gets into your eye, wash your hands thoroughly before touching your face. Rinse your affected eye with cool, clean water for 15 minutes while waiting for medical help.

If small particles like dust or sand get into your eye, you can try rinsing them out with clean water or artificial tears. If they don’t come out, give us a call or go to the emergency room.

If a large object is stuck in your eye, do not try to remove it. Go to our office or the emergency room right away for help.

If you have cuts, scratches, or bruises on your eyeball or eyelid, it's important to see a medical professional right away. Injuries to the face and head can also affect the surrounding bones and tissue, so getting medical attention quickly is crucial.

If you have an eye emergency, don't try to treat it yourself. While waiting for medical help, avoid:

  • Rubbing or applying pressure to the eye
  • Attempting to remove objects stuck in the eye tissue or skin
  • Using metal tools like tweezers on your eye
  • Applying medications or ointments without medical advice

We hope you never face an eye emergency, but if you do, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.
